There's no place like home!

And it's not Kansas I am referring to! I HATE tornado weather! It scares me to pieces! I have serious anxiety, panic, heart, and whatever other kind of attacks you can have. I used to love thunder storms. I remember watching the lightning with my dad from our living room window when I was young. I also remember how much I loved the thunder storms in Utah when I was at BYU. For some reason, my favorite was listening to the soundtrack from "Last of the Mohicans" during a thunderstorm in Provo. Loved it! I would even open the windows sometimes to listen to the rain. My innocent thunderstorm loving days are over!

Ever since we lived in Indiana, and now Kansas, I cannot enjoy a thunderstorm without an intense fear that there will be a tornado. I am constantly terrified! I can't sleep at all during a storm now. It is 11:40 p.m. currently, and everyone else in my house is asleep except for me. It is hailing right now...big hail too!
It is so loud! It sounds like someone is dumping huge bags of marbles on my house.I hate it! Wow! It's soooo loud! I just went upstairs to check on the kids, and Logan was wide awake. I took him in my room and put him in bed with Tony for now. I think the sever storms are supposed to be over soon, but it will be raining with thinder and lightning all night. Just no more hail, and no tornados...so they say. It's just so darn loud! I am not going to get any sleep tonight.

The crazy thing is that this afternoon was sooo beautiful...it was 71 degrees! We totally went for a walk and played outside. And now this. I think it is supposed to be 38 degrees tomorrow. Crazy. Give me my warm, sunny San Diego any day! There's no place like that home!

I'm with you Kerry!! I used to love thunderstorms when I lived out west. Ever since Dental School in Kentucky those days have past. Now that we live in Oklahoma it is so scary. When we had severe weather on Friday night all I had to remember was that we do all we can to be safe. Heavenly Father will take care of the rest. I know this sounds silly but if we go up in a tornado then that is just the way it is. I wasn't half as scared this time as I was the first year we moved here. Also, you need to get a storm radio if you don't have one already. It runs on batteries and it will sound a siren if there are any tornado warning within a 50 mile radius. That way if you are sleeping in the middle of the night it will wake you.

I like hearing thunderstorms. For some reason I'm not that scared of tornadoes. They seem like one of those things that will "never really happen" (I mean, I know they happen, but just that nothing will actually happen to you or your house) I better knock on wood!! There was a tornado watch here today.

I still like thunderstorms. . .even in Indiana. It is exhilarating for some reason. Like Kayli, it seems like the real thing won't happen. (Ditto the knock on wood.) I supposedly live in "tornado alley." There have been several that have hit in our neighborhood over the past 30 years or so.

70 degree weather? I would love that!

I wasn't scared AT ALL of tornadoes in Indiana. I think it was because I had lived in Oklahoma and knew what real tornadoes were like. A biggish one would hit Indiana every now and again but it was nothing like Oklahoma tornadoes.
Now that you're in Kansas, I would follow Robyn's advice and get a storm radio. You have a basement so that's good. You might want to set up a little spot down there so it is comfortable because you're bound to go down there at least once a tornado season.

The good news? In most cases you'll have warning. You'll be able to get your family safe downstairs and all should be well.
The chances of a tornado actually hitting your house/neighborhood are pretty slim. I think earthquakes are scarier because you don't have any warning.

And, there's my novel.

I grew up with earthquakes, and while they are scary, I don't fear them as much as tornados. Maybe because they were never bad where I lived. Or maybe because you don't know when they are coming, so you don't have timw to be freaked out and worried? Or maybe because there isn't really anything or anywhere you can do or go to be safe in an earthquake...except the doorway.Maybe it's just the fear of having your house blown away with you in it in a tornado? Oh who knows! I am a fraidy-cat that's all there is to it.
